So what’s going wrong?

Complex project schedules — comprising tens of thousands of activities and thousands of milestones

Combined with the inescapable cognitive and behavioural biases which are part of the story of humankind's evolution.

Availability bias

Optimism bias

Salience bias

These biases make it extremely hard for project teams to...

Mitigate risks they haven’t experienced in the recent past

Forecast projects accurately or effectively mitigate known risks

Notice ‘boring’ risks

Leading to...

Key milestones missed again and again

Contracting and baselining exercises undermined

Unexpected delays materialise without warning

Overheads and time bound costs spiral

Business case for project is weakened or collapses

Contractor's profit margin squeezed or lost entirely

Owner-operator's business is devalued

Trust between contractor and owner-operator breaks down

Legal issues ensure with liquidated damaged awarded

Reputational damage makes it hard for contractor to win work and owner to invest in new projects

Enter nPlan

In 2017, nPlan was founded to solve this problem. nPlan's founders believed that AI and 'big data' could be used to model and forecast large-scale construction projects much more accurately than traditional methods allowed...

To prove out its hypothesis, nPlan began assembling a dataset of past project schedules.

2017

nPlan Co-founders Dev Amratia and Alan Mosca met through Entrepreneur First and are pictured here with an early version of the company's logo.

nPlan raised its seed round, and articulated its vision to build a world where our ambitions are no longer limited by our understand of risk. Some of the world's biggest project owners pilot nPlan's early platform.

2018

nPlan is awarded Risk Management Product of the Year in the CIR Risk Management Awards 🏆

2020

The nPlan team enjoy a rare in-person meet-up in July 2020 (following the first Covid-19 lockdown)

With our roster of clients and dataset continuing to grow (and our technology evolving) we raised Series A funding of $18.5m with a round led by GV

2021

Fast forward to today: nPlan's dataset of past project schedules is comprised of over

750,000 programmes

and growing

2023

And the world's biggest owner-operators and contractors are using nPlan's original machine learning-powered technology AND its project controls AI assistant Barry to forecast and de-risk their projects like never before
